Liverpool climbed to the top of the Premier League with a resilient 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield.
Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah in a thrilling second half propelled the Reds to the summit on a day when both Manchester City and Arsenal stumbled, leaving Liverpool two points clear.
Brighton took an early lead, with Ferdi Kadioglu firing in his first Premier League goal from 16 yards out in the 14th minute. The Seagulls controlled the first half, pressing Liverpool hard and keeping the home fans unusually quiet.
Caoimhin Kelleher kept Liverpool in the match, denying Brighton’s Georginio Rutter in a crucial save before halftime.
Liverpool responded energetically in the second half, displaying the fighting spirit that has defined their campaign under new manager Arne Slot. Gakpo found the equaliser in the 70th minute when his left-wing cross found the net untouched.
Just three minutes later, Salah delivered his trademark finish, curling a shot into the far corner to put Liverpool ahead and secure his seventh league goal of the season.
From there, Liverpool managed the game with discipline and intensity, allowing Brighton few opportunities to level. While Brighton had shown moments of brilliance under young manager Fabian Hurzeler, Liverpool’s strong second half left them firmly in control and Brighton only managed one shot on target after the break.
This hard-earned win keeps Liverpool at the top of the table and adds momentum as they head into a busy period of fixtures.
