Dorgu Embracing Amorim’s Blueprint as United’s Pre-Season Gains Momentum
Manchester United's pre-season continued to bloom - this time in a soaked Soldier Field in Chicago, and no one seemed more in sync with the rhythm of Rúben Amorim’s system than Patrick Dorgu.
The 20-year-old Danish full-back lit up the left flank against Bournemouth, turning heads with his surging runs, intelligent positioning, and a clinical goal that underscored a growing confidence in his role.
For a player who only arrived at Old Trafford from Serie A club Lecce in January, Dorgu is adapting at an impressive pace. He’s fitting in and growing into a system that demands understanding, positional discipline, and tactical flexibility. And according to the man himself, it’s the structure of pre-season that’s making that possible.
“I feel like the pre-season is helping everyone to understand Ruben's ideas even more,” Dorgu explained after the 4-1 win in Chicago as manutd.com quoted. “The more training we have, the more we will grow into his ideas, and I feel like it is being seen a little bit on the pitch already. We just keep improving.”
Dorgu’s performance against the Cherries showcased exactly that, a player beginning to flourish under clear instruction, confident movement, and growing chemistry with teammates like Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount.
His goal, United’s second of the night, was the result of sharp awareness and physical persistence, muscling past his marker before slotting the ball past the keeper with calm assurance.
“It felt good,” Dorgu said of the goal and the overall team display. “It was good to help the team out there, and it was good to get the win. We keep improving and look forward to the season.”
He also acknowledged the supporters, who braved adverse weather to back the team: “It was good to see the fans were still there even though the weather conditions were not so good. It was good that the team gave a good performance for the fans.”
The connection with fellow Dane Rasmus Højlund, who also found the net, added another layer to the evening’s story. It’s a promising sight for United fans: two young players from the same national team clicking in Amorim’s evolving project, especially for Hojlund, who had a below-par 2024-25 campaign.
“It was good to see him score again, and hopefully he will score more again in the [2025-26] season,” Dorgu said of his international teammate.
With the Premier League opener against Arsenal on the horizon, Dorgu knows every outing counts. But there’s no rush in his voice, only focus. “Every game is a chance to improve and be ready for Arsenal,” he said. “Every game is important and we will take it game by game.”
For now, Patrick Dorgu is making every minute of this pre-season count, for himself, and a Manchester United side clearly embracing the early fruits of Amorim’s philosophy.
