Joao Palhinha on Why He Chose Tottenham After Etihad Heroics

Joao Palhinha Reveals Why He Decided to Join Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium carried plenty of talking points, but one of the most significant came from the man who sealed the win.

Joao Palhinha, making only his second appearance since arriving on loan, powered home Spurs’ second goal and then explained why he chose North London as his next footballing chapter.

City had threatened early, but when James Trafford misjudged a pass inside his own area, Palhinha pounced with trademark composure to double Spurs’ advantage before half-time.

His strike, coupled with Brennan Johnson’s opener, silenced the champions and ensured Thomas Frank’s side made it two wins from two to open the season.

After the game, Palhinha was open about the reasons behind his summer switch. Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: “First of all, the coach [Thomas Frank] who pushed me to come here and showed me the project he has here at Tottenham. It is such a great club, and I am really glad to be in the Premier League again.”

The Portuguese international admitted the decision was about more than football. “I am so happy, me and my family. Now I want to enjoy this top club and top atmosphere again.”

His comments reflect both personal contentment and belief in Spurs’ trajectory under Frank, whose influence is already proving decisive.

For supporters, seeing a player of Palhinha’s stature embrace the project adds weight to the optimism around the squad. His first goal for the club came in one of the toughest fixtures of the calendar, underlining the hunger and commitment that made him a standout signing.

While City were left frustrated and searching for answers, Tottenham walked away with more than just three points.

They saw a new arrival make a statement on the pitch and also pledge his confidence in the journey Frank is building. Palhinha’s words, and his strike, echoed the same message: Spurs are moving forward with purpose.
