Pep Guardiola Lauds Oscar Bobb’s Return as Key Boost for Manchester City
Pep Guardiola has hailed the return of Oscar Bobb as a major boost for Manchester City, praising the young Norwegian’s impact in the Cityzens' Premier League opener against Wolves.
Bobb, who endured a long spell on the sidelines through injury last season, was restored to the starting line-up at Molineux and delivered a performance that left his manager delighted.
Operating from the right wing, the Academy graduate caused constant problems for the Wolves defence and set up Tijjani Reijnders for City’s second goal in a convincing 4-0 win.
Guardiola admitted that seeing Bobb back in action reminded him of what the team had been lacking during his absence.
“Now I realise when I saw him in the first half and the second, I realise how much we missed him last season,” the City boss explained as mancity.com quoted. “He’s sharp and quick and like Phil [Foden] with his qualities.”
The City manager highlighted not only Bobb’s attacking flair but also his all-round contribution. “I’m so happy he is back. I don’t know how long it is since he played 90 minutes, maybe one year, but he is so strong, so disciplined in defensive issues, an incredible threat in small spaces.
“Hopefully, he can be healthy. All I ask for him is to be healthy and strong in his head and I’m pretty sure he is going to help us in that position.”
Guardiola also placed Bobb’s rise in the broader context of City’s thriving youth system, which has supplied the senior squad with several key talents in recent years. “He is another quality player from the Academy.
“In the last decade, it has been unbelievable how many good players this club has created. There is an incredible team helping the Academy, and I have a feeling right now in the EDS, there are a lot of good players.”
For Bobb, who has been tipped as one of the brightest products of City’s Academy, this performance marked a fresh start after the frustration of last season.
Guardiola’s praise underlines his faith that the 21-year-old can play a meaningful role in the campaign ahead, adding further depth to a side already stacked with attacking options.
