Cristian “Cuti” Romero has experienced a whirlwind fortnight at Tottenham Hotspur, but amid the new captaincy, a contract extension, and big wins, his focus remains on unity.
The Argentine centre-back, who was recently entrusted with the armband by Thomas Frank, has enjoyed a special spell, leading Spurs in the UEFA Super Cup against PSG, celebrating a 3-0 league victory over Burnley, and sealing a long-term deal with the club he now calls home.
Yet, beyond personal milestones, Romero insists the heart of Tottenham’s progress lies in collective strength.
“Honestly, the last two weeks, first captain, now a new contract with the Club, I’m very, very happy,” Romero said. “For me, it’s a fantastic decision. Now we start together again. I’m very happy at the club. For me, this club is the best in the world. For this, I extend my contract.”

His words carried more than gratitude. They underlined a deep bond with Spurs, forged through family and football alike.
The defender spoke warmly of walking out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with his young son, describing the experience as “special” and emblematic of his connection to the club and its supporters.
Romero was also keen to highlight the foundations that make Tottenham Hotspur more than just a team to him: “The people here, inside, a top manager, I’m very happy with the club. My children were born here. My family is very happy here. I love football, I love this club. It was special for me to be with him [my son].”
But perhaps his most powerful message was directed at the fans. The 28-year-old stressed the importance of solidarity through every stage of the campaign: “Thanks for your support every day, every match. For me, it’s important, also for the team.
“Again, for me, the most important thing is to stay all together. Sometimes in football, good moments, bad moments, the most important thing is to stay together. Why not win again this season?”
For Romero, leadership isn’t only about wearing the captain’s armband. It’s about ensuring that Spurs, their players, and their fans move forward as one - in triumph and challenge.
