Rúben Amorim has urged patience as Manchester United continue their evolution under his leadership, stressing that his side requires time to build the foundations for long-term success.
Speaking ahead of United’s Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby Town, the manager acknowledged both the quality within his squad and the challenges of balancing performances in such a competitive environment.
United were held to a 1–1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage at the weekend, and while the result highlighted some encouraging signs, Amorim admitted the group is not yet at the level required for the demands of European football.
“We have three games this week. We have quality players and we need to rotate to try to win every game,” he explained. “It is a normal thing that happens in other clubs. I think we were not prepared to play in Europe. That is my feeling.”
Amorim emphasised that growth cannot be rushed, underlining the need to establish a stronger base before tackling the added demands of continental competition.
“To have strong games in the Champions League and then play in the Premier League, we need time to develop as a team,” he said. “We need time to prepare for every game. The games are really competitive. We need time to build the base and then, in the future, to move forward.”
While United’s absence from Europe may be seen as a setback for a club of their stature, Amorim framed it differently, suggesting it is an opportunity to focus on stability and development before the inevitable return to the European stage.
“We will reach a moment when we need to have Europe for everybody to play games,” he insisted. “For now, the priority is making sure the team is ready for that challenge when it comes.”
